West Palm Beach is the county seat and city of the Palm Beach County. West Palm Beach has been incorporated as a city two years before Miami and is the oldest large municipality in the metropolitan area of South Florida.

West Palm Beach has a large number of notable places, cities and buildings. Some of the most notable and famous buildings are: Trump Plaza, Tower 1515, Palm Beach House, Placido Mar and many more.

The arts and culture in the West Palm Beach area is popular and the Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum which is maintained and operated by the Historical Society of Palm Beach County. The museum provides access to the history of Palm Beach County through a research library and on-site investigation. West Palm Beach also has the Rymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and it was built in 1992 and hosts performances of music, dance, opera and a theatre. More arts and culture places in West Palm Beach include Florida Stage, Norton Museum of Art, The Carefree Theatre, Meyer Amphitheater, Palm Beach County Convention Center. West Palm Beach also includes the SunFest which is an annual music, art and waterfront festival. This festival was founded in 1982 and was created to draw visitors to the area during the shoulder seasons of April and May. With over 275,000 people attending the SunFest each year this festival has been an annual hit and has drawn performers such as Carrier Underwood, John Mayer, Ray Charles, Ludacris, Nelly, Lenny Kravitz, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, and many more.
